Description:
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, dual-role educator who is both an outstanding Physical Education teacher and a nationally certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). This unique position is perfect for a passionate professional who loves teaching lifetime fitness, health, and leadership through physical education while also serving as the primary athletic trainer for all varsity, JV, and middle school athletic programs.

The ideal candidate is organized, student-centered, and thrives in a fast-paced high school environment where you are truly part of the school family — knowing every athlete by name, building relationships that last beyond graduation, and playing a vital role in both classroom and athletic success.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education Teacher (50–60% of role)**
  • Teach engaging, standards-based PE and Health classes to 9th–12th grade students (class sizes typically 20–28)
  • Develop curriculum that emphasizes lifetime fitness, teamwork, leadership, nutrition, mental health, and personal wellness
  • Incorporate strength & conditioning, sport-specific skills, recreational games, and project-based units
  • Utilize modern facilities (gymnasium, weight room, turf fields) and technology to create innovative lessons
  • Assess student learning through skills demonstrations, fitness testing, projects, and written work

Head Athletic Trainer (40–50% of role)**
  • Provide daily athletic training coverage for all sports (football, basketball, volleyball, track, soccer, baseball, softball, etc.) including practices and games (home & away)
  • Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries
  • Maintain comprehensive injury records and communicate with physicians, parents, coaches, and administration
  • Manage the athletic training room, inventory, and budget
  • Develop and implement concussion protocol, emergency action plans, heat illness prevention, and return-to-play programs
  • Supervise student athletic training aides and serve as preceptor for athletic training students when applicable
  • Coordinate pre-participation physicals and insurance/medical paperwork

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Athletic Training (Master’s preferred)
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)
  • Current state licensure as an Athletic Trainer
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification
  • Minimum 2–3 years experience as a certified athletic trainer (high school or college level preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel with teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching high school PE/Health
  • Strength & Conditioning certification (CSCS, SCCC, or similar)
  • Experience with Hudl, DragonFly, or similar athletic management software
  • Background in football coverage strongly preferred

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive teacher salary scale + substantial athletic trainer stipend ($8,000–$10,000+ depending on experience)
  • Full benefits package (health, dental, retirement, life insurance)

This is a rare opportunity to have a true dual-impact role — shaping students in the classroom by day and keeping athletes healthy and performing at their peak by night.
