Physical Education Teacher/Athletic Coordinator

Woodlands is seeking an innovative, collaborative and self-directed individual for the position Physical Education Teacher/Athletic Coordinator for K4-8th grades for our organization. The successful candidate must be able to provide instruction for the students individually and in groups using a variety of instructional methods such as lecture, discussions and demonstrations. The candidate must adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the needs of all students in a fair and equitable manner. The candidate must integrate culturally responsive practices into their classroom.

Started in 1936, Woodlands School is a public charter school through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Woodlands utilizes a multi-age classroom model that incorporates SEL and character education into daily instruction. Content area instruction is standards aligned, rigorous, and provides opportunities for project based learning and real world connections.

Overall PE Teacher Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development.
  • Contributes to student learning, growth, and advancement.
  • Demonstrates academic competence in subject area(s), and displays an inclination for developing integrated and interdisciplinary work across the curriculum.
  • Utilizes data and formative/summative assessments to be responsive to learner needs.
  • Collaborates effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups within the organization and with external partners to increase student performance and contribute to advancing the teaching and learning craft.
  • Looks beyond the walls of the classroom and demonstrates global competence and how their work will expand the impact of students’ work to their families and local and global communities.
  • Recognizes the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance, and aspires toward developing and teaching the whole child.
  • Works collaboratively with their unit team, teaching assistant, administration, and other staff.
  • Builds a partnership with the parents of their students
  • Embraces professional growth and learning
  • Takes ownership of student learning in their classroom
  • Is timely and professional in the various responsibilities of the position.

Overall Athletic Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and coordinates all athletic programs, including scheduling practices, games, and transportation logistics.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between coaches, families, and school leadership to ensure clear communication and program alignment.
  • Supports coaches with compliance, training, and resources to maintain high standards for student safety and development.
  • Manages athletic budgets, equipment, and facility use to ensure programs are well-resourced and sustainable.
  • Fosters a positive, inclusive sports culture that aligns with the school’s mission and supports student growth on and off the field.
  • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend games or events as needed to support athletes, families, and the school community.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education
  • Licensure: Teaching license from WI DPI
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience and related qualifications. Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Short-term, Long-term Disability insurance coverage is available through the organization.
