Rehabilitation Doctor (Physiatrist)
Position Summary
The Rehabilitation Doctor is responsible for evaluating patients with physical and/or cognitive impairments, developing and supervising individualized rehabilitation programs, and coordinating care within a multidisciplinary team. The primary goal is to reduce pain, restore optimal function, and maximize patient independence in daily activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive physical, neurological, and functional assessments for inpatients and outpatients.
- Diagnose functional limitations and develop evidence-based rehabilitation treatment plans with clear therapeutic goals.
- Prescribe and oversee therapies (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy), medications, injections, and assistive devices as appropriate.
- Monitor clinical and functional progress, adjust treatment plans as necessary, and manage rehabilitation-related medical issues (e.g., pain, spasticity, complications of immobility).
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, rehabilitation goals, home programs, and long-term management plans.
- Document assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical protocol development, and where applicable, teaching or supervision of junior medical staff and trainees.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent) with completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) or Rehabilitation Medicine.
- Valid and current DHP (Department of Healthcare Professions – Ministry of Public Health, Qatar) medical license, or eligibility to obtain DHP licensure prior to joining.
