Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Physical Science Teacher to join our homeschool co-op program, focusing on inspiring 8th and 9th-grade students through engaging science education. The position is for the 2026-27 academic year, and requires teaching one 90-minute class weekly and (on the same day) supervising self-directed learning and tutoring assistance upon request, for a total of 4.5 hours on Tuesdays. The hours are from 9:00 AM - 12 Noon and the class is from 12:30 - 2:00. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards for middle and early high school physical science courses, emphasizing topics such as physics, chemistry, and earth sciences.
- Incorporate laboratory activities, dissection exercises, and scientific research projects to enhance experiential learning and practical understanding of concepts like organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell biology.
- Utilize innovative learning technology tools to facilitate interactive lessons, virtual labs, and digital assessments that cater to diverse learning styles.
- Manage classroom environments effectively by applying classroom management techniques, behavior management strategies, and differentiated instruction to support students with varying needs including those requiring special education accommodations.
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, project evaluations, and tutoring sessions; provide constructive feedback to guide improvement.
- Collaborate with parents and guardians on academic advising and progress updates; serve as a mentor to motivate students’ interest in scientific research and higher education pathways.
- Maintain accurate records of lesson plans, student performance data, laboratory reports, and instructional materials; ensure proofreading for clarity and accuracy in all communications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical sciences such as physics or chemistry; advanced degrees or certifications in education or science are preferred.
- Proven classroom experience teaching middle school or high school science courses with a focus on engaging students in scientific inquiry.
- Strong knowledge of core subjects including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, discrete math, differential equations, organic chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, and laboratory techniques such as dissection.
- Experience in curriculum development and instructional design tailored for homeschool or private school settings.
- Proficiency with learning technology platforms and digital tools used for virtual labs, research projects, and assessments.
- Excellent communication skills for working with students of diverse backgrounds; capable of mentoring and providing academic guidance effectively.
- Ability to manage classroom behavior constructively while fostering a positive learning environment; experience with Montessori or other specialized educational approaches is a plus.
