Accel is a private, nonprofit organization for children and young adults with special needs, ages 5-22. Accel provides innovative, individualized and comprehensive educational, therapeutic, vocational, behavioral, life skills, and transitional services to individuals with a wide range of disabilities including autism, intellectual, physical disabilities and health impairments.
SUMMARY:
Provides physical therapy treatments under supervision of a physical therapist. The PTA will provide various gross motor treatments for students with physical, cognitive, and emotional/behavioral challenges through collaboration with teachers, parents and other related service providers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in planning and collaborating with teachers to provide physical therapy treatments.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team to implement therapeutic and educational programs.
- Provide gross motor treatments in a variety of settings (classroom, playground, aquatic area, etc.).
- Training classroom staff on safe lifting techniques and utilizing adaptive equipment.
- Routinely inspecting, maintaining and if needed, repairing adaptive equipment.
- Develop and maintain a professional relationship with teachers and related service providers.
- Maintaining an accurate record keeping system.
- Maintain attendance and hourly contact records for Medicaid.
- Submit Medicaid billing as directed.
- Assists with maintaining therapy department equipment and materials.
- Participates in school meetings, in-services, and committees designed to improve/enhance the overall school program. Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues by providing relevant in-services.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Valid Arizona Board of Physical Therapy PTA certificate.
- Obtain an AHCCCS number for submission of Medicaid billing
- Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a required background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Students may exhibit inappropriate physical behavior which may include hitting, biting, kicking, etc.
