Primary Functions & Responsibilities (Spine APC – Clinic & OR):

Performs physical examinations, compiles medical data, records medical history, and implements treatment plans for new and established patients.

Orders appropriate diagnostic studies when indicated.

Instructs patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow‑up expectations.

Consults with the supervising physician when warranted to assess patient condition and treatment needs.

Ensures medical charts and administrative paperwork are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
-
Delivers follow‑up care to patients according to practice guidelines.
-
May perform preoperative assessments and confirm completion of required documentation.

Assesses patient status for compliance with physical, emotional, and social admission requirements.

May perform thorough preoperative work‑ups for scheduled procedures.
-
Notifies the Medical Director or attending physician if a patient does not meet criteria or is not suitable for outpatient treatment.

Confirms that medical clearance and all diagnostic tests are completed and documented.
-
Supports patients and families by explaining the perioperative experience and outlining their responsibilities in the outpatient process.

May coordinate the surgical schedule, considering patient‑specific needs.

Functions within the guidelines of privileges approved by the governing body and delegated by the Medical Director.

May confer with the surgeon regarding the planned anesthetic.

Documents orders and considerations specified by the surgeon and carried out by the physician.

Monitors patients and administers medications according to facility policy.

Performs preoperative activities in alignment with facility policy.
-
Provides support to both medical and office staff as needed.

Works in both the clinic and operating room, supporting a Spine‑focused practice Monday through Friday.

Travels between facilities when required.

Comfortable working in both clinic and OR settings within a Spine specialty practice.
