About the Role:

The Physician Assistant (PA) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality healthcare across diverse medical settings including emergency medicine, urgent care, family medicine, and primary care. This position involves collaborating closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic illnesses, ensuring comprehensive patient care. The PA will be responsible for performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and providing patient education to promote health and wellness. In addition, the role requires the ability to respond effectively to trauma and critical care situations, demonstrating sound clinical judgment under pressure. Ultimately, the PA contributes to improving patient outcomes by delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to individual patient needs within the United States healthcare system.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current and unrestricted Physician Assistant license to practice in the United States.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Demonstrated experience or clinical rotations in emergency medicine, urgent care, or primary care settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in trauma care or critical care environments.
  • Additional certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telemedicine platforms.
  • Strong background in family medicine or pediatrics.
  • Participation in continuing medical education (CME) related to emergency and urgent care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations to assess health status and identify medical conditions.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and imaging studies to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and coordinating surgical or specialty referrals as needed.
  • Provide patient education on disease prevention, treatment options, medication management, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Respond promptly to emergency and trauma cases, delivering critical care interventions in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with medical advancements and best practices.

Skills:

The required skills such as emergency medicine, urgent care, and critical care enable the Physician Assistant to effectively assess and manage patients in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations. Family medicine and primary care skills support comprehensive patient management, including preventive care and chronic disease management. Proficiency in patient education ensures that the PA can communicate complex medical information clearly, empowering patients to participate actively in their care. Surgical knowledge and trauma expertise are essential for assisting in operative procedures and managing acute injuries. Together, these skills allow the PA to deliver holistic, patient-centered care across a broad spectrum of clinical scenarios, enhancing overall healthcare delivery.
