Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations for new and follow-up GI patients
-
Evaluate and manage common GI conditions including:
-
GERD
-
IBS
-
Crohn’s disease
-
Ulcerative colitis
-
Hepatitis
-
Constipation
-
Liver disease
-
Hemorrhoids
-
Abdominal pain
-
GI bleeding
-
Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests including labs, imaging, stool studies, and pathology reports
-
Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physician
-
Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and practice protocols
-
Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, dietary modifications, colonoscopy prep, and treatment plans
-
Monitor chronic GI conditions and adjust treatment plans as needed
-
Assist with or perform procedures as permitted by state law and practice scope, including:
-
Pre-procedure evaluations
-
Colonoscopy and endoscopy preparation and follow-up
-
Hemorrhoid banding assistance
-
Hospital GI consult rounds
-
Manage post-procedure follow-up and patient care coordination
-
Complete accurate and timely chart documentation in EMR
-
Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, and specialty testing
-
Review pathology and lab results with patients
-
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including colorectal surgery, hepatology, nutrition, and primary care
-
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and compliance standards
-
Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program
-
Current California PA license (or applicable state license)
-
NCCPA certification required
-
DEA license and prescriptive authority
-
BLS/ACLS certification preferred
-
Minimum 1–2 years of GI, internal medicine, family medicine, or related experience preferred
-
Strong knowledge of gastroenterology diseases, treatments, and medications
-
EMR proficiency
