Physician Assistant - Spine Surgery

Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Physician Assistant specializing in Spine Surgery to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess clinical expertise in spinal procedures, patient assessment, and acute care management. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to advanced surgical care, patient recovery, and innovative treatment approaches within a dynamic hospital or outpatient setting. The Physician Assistant will work closely with our spine surgeon, providing comprehensive patient evaluations, assisting in surgeries, and managing post-operative care to ensure optimal outcomes.

Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations, vital signs, and medical history reviews, with a focus on spinal conditions.
  • Assist spine surgeons during surgical procedures by preparing the operative field, suturing, and managing sterile techniques.
  • Administer injections under physician supervision.
  • Manage acute pain through medication administration, and other critical care interventions as needed.
  • Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as EClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient data, clinical notes, and medical records.
  • Coordinate diagnostic evaluations including imaging studies like MRI or CT scans and interpret results for treatment planning.
  • Provide patient education on spinal health, post-operative care instructions, and lifestyle modifications to promote recovery.
  • Support triage processes in outpatient or emergency settings by prioritizing urgent cases and managing initial patient intake.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Physician Assistant with current licensure to practice in Texas.
  • Proven experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or orthopedic/spine surgery settings with a focus on acute care and trauma management.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; proficiency in CPT coding and ICD-10/ICD-9 coding for billing purposes.
  • Experience with suturing techniques, injection administration (including Botulinum toxin), and aseptic techniques within surgical environments.
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy related to the spine and nervous system, and diagnostic evaluation methods.
  • Strong skills in patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, data collection, and discharge planning.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, surgeons, and therapists.
  • Commitment to maintaining HIPAA standards while handling confidential health information; basic life support (BLS) certification required. Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
