POSITION: Physician Assistant

SALARY: $67.98 - $88-38, per hour/DOE

REPORTS TO: Medical Director

LOCATION: Omak, WA

SUMMARY:

The Physician Assistant works under the direction of the Medical Director to fulfill the Colville Tribal Healthcare Authority mission. The Physician Assistant is responsible for providing ambulatory patient care as a health center clinician with a full panel of patients providing high quality medical care, meeting UDS benchmarks, contact compliance and strategic planning. Cultural sensitivity is a key component of this position. The Physician Assistant will perform their job duties in a professional manner while assuring that all the needs of the patients are met with a pleasant demeanor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direct patient care as a health center clinician with a full panel of patients providing high quality medical care.
  • Ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of medical care.
  • Assess patient health condition and detect possible issues/medical condition.
  • Works closely with other health programs to provide integrated care.
  • Works as a team member to foster teamwork with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Giving appropriate advice for healthy habits (diet, hygiene, etc.).
  • Examination methodologies and diagnostics for patient care.
  • Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and the patient’s medical history.
  • Prescribe and interpret lab tests to obtain more information for underlying infections or abnormalities.
  • Promoting Prevention through set UDS measures.
  • Implementing a plan for follow up and next visits.
  • Prescribe medications or drugs and provide comprehensive instructions for administration.
  • Ensure patient is aware of and understands any new medication and /or dose changes and provide an updated order to pharmacy.
  • Examine and provide treatments to injuries and refer patients to other practitioners when needed.
  • Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for patients.
  • Remain up-to-date with developments and best practices in medicine by attending conferences and seminars.
  • Participates in meetings and committees as requested.
  • Adhere to a standardized system of documentation.
  • Complies and ensures compliance with applicable legislation, funding and organizational requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure confidential handling of sensitive team member information in line with data protection policies and laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
  • Degree as a Physician Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Washington state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Must have current DEA license.
  • HIPAA training within initial 90 days of employment.
  • Blood borne pathogen training annually.
  • Ability to understand, speak, communicate and read the English language.
  • Ability to utilize RPMS and EHR proficiently.
  • Requires ability to utilize a multi-line telephone with good telephone etiquette.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Well-developed human relation skills to convey technical concepts to others.
  • Ability to communicate technical information and to interact with a wide variety of groups and individuals inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work processes in a high-volume environment in order to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple information ports by comparing and contrasting data to draw a conclusion or to identify trends.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in written, verbal, and non-verbal format while portraying a friendly tone, word choice, and body language.
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive in the duties of the position in order to meet mandated deadlines and to comply with goals and objectives.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License is required and be insurable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Manual and finger dexterity to complete duties.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to push and pull frequently.
  • Ability to comprehend complex issues.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to write, recognize printed materials, computer screen, and notice non-verbal behavior.
  • Speech and hearing ability to project voice to small and large audiences, carry on telephone conversations, hear and grasp verbal communications and equipment prompts.
  • Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
