KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:
Duties:
- Demonstrate capability in Physiotherapy Assistant skills. Follow instructions of the Physiotherapist to treat patients following a designated treatment plan utilising basic physiotherapy technique such as assisting a patient to walk with an appropriate aid as required.
- Assist the Physiotherapist with individual and group treatments/exercise. Able to recognise change in the condition of a patient with guidance from Physiotherapists and to watch the patient response to any treatment undertaken.
- Monitor the reaction of patients to specific physiotherapy techniques undertaken.
- Manage clinical risk within own caseload including observing patients in all situations applicable to physiotherapy, ensuring safety and security constantly.
- Comply continuously with the requirements of the Health and Safety Regulations and to take responsibility for the health, safety, and welfare of others in the working environment.
- Demonstrate physical ability to carry out physiotherapy interventions including therapeutic handling and exercise programs. Demonstrate dexterity and co-ordination for physiotherapy treatment of patients.
- Able to cope with occasional, potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner.
- Attend mandatory annual training (Fire, Manual Handling and Adult Basic Life Support).
- Maintain a proficient standard of ethical and professional behaviour when treating and dealing with athletes / patients.
- Responsible for competent use and maintenance of all equipment used and to report defects in equipment in a timely manner. Report all complaints and accidents immediately to a member of physiotherapy staff.
- Undertake routine and general light cleaning/tidying tasks within departmental clinical areas as required. Undertake some administrative tasks particularly related to record keeping, filing, supplies, errands and message taking in consultation with physiotherapy staff as required.
- Prepare and clean equipment used in treatment as required. Maintain stocks of walking aids and consumables in the department and on the wards.
- Responsible for non-clinical induction of assistants and students as required.
- Responsible for maintenance of accurate written records using Cerner charting as required. Demonstrate the ability to motivate and persuade patients through effective communication skills.
- Responsible to report to the Physiotherapist or senior Physiotherapist in the clinical area of placement daily.
- Liaise with other physiotherapists or health professionals as necessary regarding patient care. Liaise with managers, other administrative and support staff as necessary to ensure the smooth running of the department.
- Attend any meetings and seminars/case conferences as deemed appropriate by physiotherapy staff, including staff meetings and assistant meetings.
- Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.
- Patient Safety-Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.
Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job:
5-7 years of clinical experience of which a minimum of 2-3 year should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in a similar Industry
Education and Certification requirements:
Degree in Physiotherapy Assistant or a related training program or any equivalent course.
Professional certifications in the field of work are a plus.
Fulfil all the licensing requirements.
