ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Performs routine, emergency and preventative maintenance on material handling equipment (PIV) including turret trucks, order pickers, reach trucks, sit down forklift, power walkies and stacker lifts.
  • Assists and performs in-service inspections and setup for newly acquired Powered Industrial Equipment.
  • Performs servicing, inspections and repairs of batteries and battery chargers for PIT.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturer’s service manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed. Contacts Dealers and Manufacturers if technical assistance is required.
  • Maintains ability through certification to operate all material handling equipment.
  • Keeps maintenance logs and report on daily activities. Records routine, emergency and preventative maintenance into CMMS.
  • Orders and procures parts for all necessary repairs and restocking of inventory. Ensures purchase orders are submitted and approved.
  • Identifies and submits suggestions to improve efficiencies, quality and safety.
  • Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives. Recommends and assists with implementing continuous improvement ideas.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent degree.
  • Prior experience operating equipment, up to and including swing reach trucks.
  • General knowledge of electric, and machine shop required.
  • Food or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

PERFORMANCE ABILITY

Proven ability through certification to operate and repair all plant (PIT) vehicles and accurately complete paperwork and maintain maintenance records. Good knowledge of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic skills necessary to operate, troubleshoot and repair all powered industrial vehicles. Demonstrated ability to consistently meet quality, safety and efficiency goals. Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required. Good time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task to calmly handle and complete multiple projects simultaneously and on-time in a fast-paced environment; demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently; and flexibility to change tasks frequently and work in different work centers as business needs require. Strong teamwork skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with others; strong attention to detail skills; and demonstrated high quality of work. Consistently follows all company policies and procedures, including all safety policies and procedures. Ability to work at the Roselle distribution facility, both the Bloomingdale 391 and 395 manufacturing facilities, Fruitful Yield stores, and Knollwood Dr./Scott Dr. buildings.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively to coworkers, supervisors and vendors. Good interpersonal skills required. Ability to accurately and truthfully complete paperwork. Bilingual skills a plus.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY

Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to operate and maintain certification in Powered Industrial Vehicles.
  • Basic computer (Word, Excel) and data entry skills required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends to support the business.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms (including overhead), including reaching horizontally on a ladder; ascend and/or descend stairs (including ladders); stoop, kneel (including half kneel), crouch, and crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to go to heights of up to 26 feet when operating or troubleshooting PIT. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


The employee must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise and/or place:

  • Lift up to 60 lbs. from 31-inch shelf and carry for up to 5 ft. and then return 60 lbs. to 31 inch surface.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs. floor to waist height.
  • Push and pull 42 lb. force at 36 inches.
  • Step on/off a 24-inch step.
  • Grasp 50 lbs. of force.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and is occasionally exposed to cold, and heat.


When working at either Bloomingdale manufacturing facility, the employee is exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles, some classified as allergens or irritants. This position works in all areas of NOW’s manufacturing facilities with direct exposure to ingredients (powders and liquids), mixes (powders and liquids), equipment, and packaging.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
