Job Title: Planning Engineer

Reports To: Project Manager / Planning Manager

Job Summary:

The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project schedules to ensure timely completion within scope, budget, and quality requirements. This role involves coordinating with multiple departments, analyzing progress, identifying delays, and recommending corrective actions to maintain project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and maintain detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Prepare baseline programs, look-ahead schedules, and progress reports in line with project requirements.
  • Monitor project progress against the approved schedule, identify deviations, and propose corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with project teams to gather data on progress, resources, and delays.
  • Analyze productivity rates, manpower deployment, and resource utilization.
  • Prepare and update cash flow forecasts, S-curve reports, and project dashboards.
  • Support the Project Manager in preparing delay analysis and extension of time (EOT) claims.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide planning and scheduling support.
  • Ensure all planning documents, progress reports, and schedules are aligned with contractual and company standards.
  • Assist in risk identification and mitigation planning.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–8 years of experience in project planning and scheduling in [specify industry, e.g., construction, oil & gas, infrastructure].
  • Software Skills: Proficient in Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel, and other project management tools.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of project management principles, construction methodologies, and resource planning.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze project data and prepare meaningful progress reports.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams.
  • Certifications (preferred): PMP, PSP (AACEI), or equivalent.

  • Schedule accuracy and adherence.
  • Timeliness and quality of progress reports.
  • Effectiveness of forecasting and resource planning.

Proactive identification and mitigation of schedule risks.
