Planning Engineer – Job Description

Experience Required: 1–2 Years

Job Summary

A Junior Planning Engineer is responsible for supporting project planning activities, assisting in schedule preparation, monitoring progress, and preparing basic reports under the supervision of a senior planner or project manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and updating the project schedule using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of the baseline schedule .
  • Track daily and weekly progress and update actual data in the schedule.
  • Prepare basic reports such as progress percentages and preliminary variance summaries.
  • Create and update S-curves and manpower histograms under supervision.
  • Collect and verify progress data from site teams and subcontractors.
  • Assist in initial delay analysis when required.
  • Support short-term and long-term planning tasks.
  • Attend progress meetings and document key discussions.

Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Good proficiency in Excel.
  • Understanding of project planning and scheduling principles.
  • Good analytical and reporting skills.

Soft Skills

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Ability to work under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Industrial, Mechanical, or related field).
  • 1–2 years of experience in project planning or project control.
  • Preferred (not required):
  • Training in Primavera or Project Management.
  • PMP certification interest or career development plan.
