JOB SUMMARY
The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of production and shipping, ensuring products are delivered safely, efficiently, and to The Plant Company’s quality standards.
This role is accountable for operational performance, team leadership, production efficiency, and execution within a fast-paced greenhouse and manufacturing-like environment.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations (DOO), the Plant Manager drives accountability, operational consistency, and continuous improvement while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations Management
- Oversee daily production and shipping operations
- Ensure production schedules, inventory targets, and shipping goals are achieved
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Inventory teams to maintain appropriate material and production inventory levels
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Identify and implement process improvements and cost-control initiatives
- Monitor operational efficiency and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop production team members and supervisors
- Create and manage daily and weekly labor schedules based on operational demands
- Provide performance feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations
- Handle employee performance management, corrective action, and terminations in partnership with HR
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
Safety Management
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Lead safety initiatives, training, and toolbox talks
- Participate as a liaison to the Safety Committee
- Maintain consistent participation in required safety meetings and programs
- Identify and address safety risks proactively to maintain a safe working environment
Strategic Planning & Operational Alignment
- Partner with leadership on operational planning, policies, SOPs, and process improvements
- Participate in operations meetings and contribute to company strategy and execution planning
- Establish clear workflows, responsibilities, and communication structures to support operational efficiency
Financial & Operational Reporting
- Report operational efficiency, labor utilization, and capacity metrics to the DOO
- Support budgetary planning and operational forecasting
- Monitor operational data and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and control costs
- Provide ongoing feedback and recommendations regarding operational needs and improvements
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in business, Industrial Management, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment

Strong knowledge of production, shipping, labor management, and operational workflows

Experience leading teams in fast-paced operational environments

Experience with ERP systems and Windows-based software

Horticulture Experience preferred, but not required.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATION & TRAINING:

Green Belt Six Sigma Certification; Black Belt a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the facility
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing as required by the role
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in greenhouse conditions, including humidity, varying temperatures, and exposure to noise and odors associated with greenhouse operations
