JOB SUMMARY:
Direct and manage all plant operations of Axel’s grease and lube manufacturing plant with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance and general facility and buildings-related responsibilities. The manager must ensure a safe working environment, deliver the required-quality products on time, and optimize plant efficiency as total cost / Lbs, volume produced per hour of labor, and other associated key performance indicators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure that proper safety procedures are adhered to throughout the facility by all employees, visitors, and contactors. Ensure that all personnel operating or maintaining equipment are properly trained and licensed/certified (if applicable).
- Coordinate with the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management to ensure the effective determination of all production quality root causes are determined and the implementation of effective corrective actions. Ensure that all health & safety requirements are adhered to and that all materials are managed to adhere to environmental guidelines and requirements.
- Manage 2-4 subordinate supervisors/manager(s) who supervise approximately 30-40 employee(s); is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. May also directly supervise 1-2 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; issuing rewards and performance correction; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Direct and manage all functions associated with the daily operations of production, maintenance, and quality at the facility.
- Utilizing lean manufacturing principles, develop and maintain high standards of manufacturing operation, ensuring that products conform to established customer/company quality standards and deliver on time so as to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Minimize the amount of scrap and/or waste material generated in connection with the production cycle and strive to recover maximum value from Washout and Reuse materials.
- Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, labor, wages and salaries, continuously adapting resources to current volume demand to achieve competitive total cost of operation ($/Lbs) and improve the profitability of the operation.
- Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace or adjust plant facilities and equipment when necessary; Manage capital asset acquisition, installation and maintenance; implement and maintain preventive maintenance programs.
- Champion 5S, production floor organization and plant cleanliness across the entire facility.
- Incorporate the quality policy and ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949, if applicable, Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure the accurate utilization of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for the accurate tracking of all raw materials, empty containers, and finished goods in a manner that at all times ensures accurate inventory data.
- Implement the production schedule ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Customer Service, and other plant managers to ensure the most efficient and effective production schedule in order to meet customer expectations.
- Oversee general facility-related management.
- Serves as a point person for the facility and assisting with site tours.
- Partner regularly with Accounting/Finance regarding budgets, forecasts, and monitoring/managing to the budget and applicable forecasts.
- Provide direction, development and leadership to the reporting supervisors/managers and all plant employees to support achieving the company goals and objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all current federal, state and local regulations; company policies & procedures; and Quality System requirements, staying up to date on relevant changes/updates.
- Performs all other related duties and assignments as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND at least 10 years of hands-on managerial experience in a manufacturing environment OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Background with lean manufacturing principles and methods and Six Sigma DMAIC process.
- Experience with ISO-certified requirements & environments.
- Experience with Safety and Environmental standards is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and developing teams.
- Experience with P&L management/responsibility.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook
- Experience with data software and ERP systems

- Strong leadership, people management, and communications skills
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and training requirements
