Location: Fife (various customer sites)

Hours: Up to 36 hours per week

Rate of Pay: National Minimum Wage (with progression opportunities)

Role Purpose

The Plumber’s Mate will support a qualified Plumbing and Heating Engineer in

day-to-day activities across domestic plumbing and heating work. This role is

designed to provide hands-on work experience, employability support, and practical

skills development for someone seeking to enter the construction and plumbing

sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the plumber with installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing and

heating systems

  • Prepare tools, materials and equipment required for jobs
  • Carry out basic plumbing tasks under supervision
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area
  • Support loading, unloading and transport of materials and equipment
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times, including use of PPE
  • Attend customer sites professionally and represent the company positively
  • Participate in training, employability support activities and skills development
  • Complete basic paperwork or job-related documentation if requiredPerson Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently unemployed or at risk of not achieving a positive destination

without support

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills within the plumbing and construction

industry

  • Reliable, punctual and motivated with a positive attitude
  • Able to follow instructions and work as part of a small team
  • Basic physical fitness appropriate for a manual role
  • Commitment to health and safety

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Interest in plumbing, heating or construction trades
  • Previous experience in a practical or manual environment
  • Driving licence (not essential)

Training and Support

  • On-the-job training delivered by a qualified Plumbing/Heating Engineer
  • Support to develop industry-relevant skills and pathways into apprenticeships

or further training

  • Guidance on career progression within the plumbing sector

Progression Opportunities

Following successful completion of the funded period, there may be opportunities to

continue in employment, progress into further training, or move toward an

apprenticeship depending on performance and business demand.
