A leading commercial plumbing contractor based in Texas is looking for a skilled and detail-focused Plumbing BIM Designer to contribute to the successful delivery of commercial construction projects. This position plays an essential role in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) efforts by developing coordinated BIM models, producing technical documentation, and supporting collaboration among project stakeholders from design through installation.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with engineers, project managers, field teams, and trade partners to ensure seamless project execution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain plumbing BIM models to support project planning, coordination, and construction activities.
- Produce accurate CAD drawings, construction details, piping layouts, riser diagrams, sleeve coordination plans, and installation documentation.
- Collaborate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to identify, analyze, and resolve coordination conflicts.
- Participate in coordination and constructability meetings to optimize system routing and multi-trade integration.
- Generate shop drawings, fabrication packages, coordination drawings, and field support documentation.
- Update models and drawings based on RFIs, design revisions, site conditions, and project coordination feedback.
- Ensure proper document management, version control, and tracking of project records throughout all phases of construction.
- Support field verification efforts and assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and project closeout documentation.
- Coordinate elevations, clearances, equipment locations, and installation requirements to improve constructability and field productivity.
- Assist preconstruction and estimating teams with quantity takeoffs, model reviews, and planning activities.
- Work closely with field personnel to ensure that installation aligns with design intent and project requirements.
- Maintain organized BIM standards, CAD resources, project files, and coordination records.
- Perform additional drafting, modeling, and technical support tasks as needed.
QualificationsTechnical Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in BIM modeling, CAD drafting, and construction documentation.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and related BIM/VDC software platforms.
- Solid understanding of commercial plumbing systems and construction coordination processes.
- Ability to interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with clash detection workflows and multidisciplinary model coordination.
- Experience preparing shop drawings, RFIs, coordination packages, and as-built documentation is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with exceptional attention to detail.

Education & Background

- Associate degree, technical certification, or formal training in BIM Technology, CAD Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in BIM modeling, VDC coordination, drafting, or construction design support roles preferred.
- Previous experience within commercial plumbing, mechanical construction, or MEP coordination environments is highly valued.
