We are seeking a Plumbing Designer with 3–5 years of experience who is technically capable, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow within a collaborative engineering environment.
This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of project types while developing technical expertise, project coordination skills, and increasing design responsibility.
Position Summary
The Plumbing Designer will support the design and production of plumbing and piping systems for building construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Architects, and other disciplines to develop coordinated construction documents and support successful project delivery from schematic design through construction administration.
The ideal candidate has experience in an MEP consulting environment, strong CAD/Revit skills, and a working knowledge of domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, and specialty plumbing systems.
Key Responsibilities
Plumbing Design & Production
- Develop plumbing system layouts and construction documents under the direction of licensed engineers and project managers
- Design and draft domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, natural gas, and specialty piping systems
- Assist with equipment selection, pipe sizing, fixture calculations, and code compliance
- Produce accurate and coordinated drawings using Revit and AutoCAD
- Coordinate plumbing systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
- Participate in design meetings and interdisciplinary coordination reviews
Project Coordination
- Support multiple projects while maintaining quality and schedule expectations
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal project teams
- Assist with responding to RFIs, submittals, and construction-phase questions
- Perform field verification and site observations as needed
- Support project documentation and organization throughout the project lifecycle
Technical Development
- Continue developing technical knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and industry standards
- Stay current with applicable plumbing, building, and energy codes
- Contribute to drafting standards, quality control efforts, and process improvements
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5 years of experience in an MEP consulting engineering environment
- Associate’s degree, technical degree, or bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of Revit
- Understanding of plumbing systems and building construction practices
- Familiarity with IPC, UPC, and applicable building codes
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, or multi-family projects
- Knowledge of medical gas, compressed air, fuel oil, or specialty piping systems
- Experience with Bluebeam, Navisworks, or plumbing calculation software
- EIT certification or interest in pursuing engineering licensure
- Field experience or construction coordination experience
