Job Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with a mental health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to CORE Health clients in an outpatient setting. The person in this position should demonstrate a high degree of clinical experience and be able to provide care within their scope of practice as outlined by applicable state laws, licensing, regulations, organizational policies and practice agreements.

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessments, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for patients and families. The Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner should demonstrate a high level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism and systems-based practice. The person in this position will work with administration, mental health specialist, care coordinators, support service specialist and organizational staff to ensure safe, effective, quality client care and to promote CORE Health’s mission.

Responsibilities for Nurse Practitioner

• Performs history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate for age, gender and clinical problem
• Determine, plan, and initiate appropriate treatment, and adjust treatment if necessary
• Utilizes critical thinking to synthesize and analyze collected data
• Counsels and educates patients and families
• Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to practice area
• Maintains accurate, complete, concise and timely documentation in the electronic health record system in accordance with organizational and state policies, procedures and practices
• Prescribe and dispense medications in a safe and thoughtful manner
• Document medical information of patients and maintain electronic medical records in accordance with organizational policies and practices
• Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families on presenting health problems, treatment plans, and home care, and encourage and promote preventative health care and positive health behaviors
• Request consultation or referral with other health care providers, such as physicians and clinics
• Actively maintain knowledge of current medical research and trends, and support research projects
• Facilitates consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team, including mental health specialists, administration and other organizational staff as necessary
• Demonstrates initiative to meet identified learning needs using multiple resources
• Ability to work in a team and contain initiative to work independently
• Follows ethical principles regarding patient confidentiality, informed consent and unanticipated adverse outcomes
• Demonstrates the highest level of accountability and professional practice
• Participates in education of other staff members
• Participates in organizational and departmental meetings, educational opportunities, committees and workgroups as necessary
• Performs additional tasks assigned by supervisor

Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner

• Graduate degree from an accredited nursing school, such as a Master of Science in nursing
• Must have a current license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the State of Washington or be willing to transfer license to the State of Washington
• Must have the necessary specialty certification
• Must have board certification in Psychiatric Mental Health
• Must be compassionate and personable
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other medical staff
• Strong leadership skills, self-confidence, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
• Exceptional active listening skills
