Podiatry Medical Assistant

Job Title: Podiatry Clinical Assistant

Position Summary:
The Podiatry Medical Assistant plays a dual role supporting both clinical and administrative functions within a busy foot and ankle practice. This position is responsible for assisting providers with patient care, ensuring efficient clinic flow, and managing key administrative tasks such as referrals and prior authorizations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to delivering excellent patient care and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examination, including obtaining vital signs and medical history
  • Assist the provider during podiatric procedures and examinations
  • Set up and clean exam rooms; maintain proper sterilization of instruments
  • Apply and remove dressings, splints, and assist with minor in-office procedures
  • Perform basic clinical tasks and patient education under provider direction
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)

Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, imaging centers, and ancillary services
  • Complete and track prior authorizations for procedures, medications, and imaging
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding coverage and authorization requirements
  • Assist with scheduling, patient follow-up, and care coordination
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone or electronic messaging in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Medical Assistant certification a plus
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting, podiatry or surgical specialty preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures
  • Familiarity with insurance processes, referrals, and prior authorizations strongly preferred
  • Experience with EMR systems preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Clinical setting requiring standing, walking, and assisting patients throughout the day
  • May involve exposure to blood or bodily fluids; appropriate PPE provided
  • Ability to lift and assist patients as needed

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Part-Time
  • Clinic hours: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Competitive pay based on experience

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
