POLICE CHIEF - City of Steubenville

The City of Steubenville is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

a. Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited College or University and Three (3) years’ experience as a Captain or higher within any law enforcement agency.

OR

Associates Degree in Public Safety Administration, Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited College or University and Five (5) years’ experience as a Captain or higher within any law enforcement agency; and

b. All licenses required for a Police Officer by the State of Ohio; and

c. All requirements for eligibility as a Patrolman as required by the City Civil Service Commission; and

d. Successful interview by the City Manager to ascertain executive and administrative qualifications.

e. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABIITIES

Knowledge of modern police administration; knowledge of criminal law, knowledge of rules of evidence; knowledge of laws relating to search and seizure; knowledge of investigation and crime-prevention methods; knowledge of civil rights laws; knowledge of court decisions affecting police activities; ability to plan long-range work programs and projects; ability to supervise others; ability to write and speak effectively; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, City Officials and the general public; ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

SALARY: Salary for this full-time, permanent position will be predicated on education, experience, training and other factors.
