The purpose of this position is to perform complex administrative work in organizing, planning and coordinating the activities of the criminal investigations, performs specialized investigative duty involving major crimes, vice investigations and criminal intelligence gathering.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- One (1) year of experience in law enforcement; and
- Or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Must be a SCCJA Certified Police Officer in good standing.
- Completion of advanced training courses in all areas of law enforcement.
- Maintenance of firearms proficiency.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, Red Cross or other accredited certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within six (6) months of employment.
- Possession of valid South Carolina driver’s license.
Essential Job Functions
- Manages the organization and follow-up of criminal cases in general and narcotic cases.
- Follows procedures for obtaining and executing search warrants ensuring legal requirements are met.
- Identifies suspects to bring them to justice as well as bring closure to victims of crimes. Meets regularly with the Lieutenant and Chief of Police; meets regularly with Squad Sergeants and other local Detective Unit personnel to assess crime trends and exchange information.
- Assists with the collection, maintenance, and disposition of evidence; adheres to the protocol of crime scene activities.
- Coordinates with the department’s court liaison functions in cooperation with the Solicitor’s Office and the courts of jurisdiction.
- Testifies in court and at preliminary proceedings as needed.
- Interviews or interrogations suspects, victims, witnesses or others involved in or having knowledge of criminal incidents or activities.
- Prepares and presents programs on crime prevention and related topics to students and the general public.
- Provides reports, forms, and other documents for submission to the Support Services Lieutenant; performs administrative functions as assigned.
- Gathers intelligence information pertaining to planned and/or ongoing criminal activity
- Manages Confidential Informants and/or Confidential Sources.
- Refers to policy and procedures manuals, computer manuals, publications,
- codes/laws/ordinances/regulations, and reference texts, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Pay: $66,000.00 - $77,005.00 per year
