Police Dispatcher

Job Summary:
A 911 Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, quickly assessing situations, and dispatching the appropriate emergency services. The role requires clear communication, quick decision-making, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Dispatchers must efficiently operate specialized communication systems and adhere to emergency protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
? Receive reports of fires, crimes or disturbances over the telephone, in person, or by radio.

? Gather and document essential details, including location and nature of incidents.

? Prioritize calls and determine the appropriate emergency response.

? Dispatch police, fire, or ambulance units by telephone or radio.

? Stay in contact with responding units and provide updates as needed.

? Offer guidance and reassurance to callers in distress.

? Maintain accurate records of calls and responses.

? Perform a variety of clerical duties.

? Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
? Must be at least 18 years of age and have education equivalent to completion of high school.

? Strong verbal and written communication skills.

? Ability to actively listen and extract critical information.

? Quick decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

? Capacity to manage stress and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

? Proficiency in operating dispatch systems, radios, and computers.

? Knowledge of local geography, landmarks, and jurisdictional boundaries.

? Availability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
