Non-Certified: $41,727

Certified: $50,991 (After completion of field training)

Your role will be integral in the department’s mission of preserving the peace, protecting life and property, preventing crime, apprehending criminals, recovering lost and stolen property, and fair and impartial law enforcement. This position works under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant and performs responsible protective service work in the Police Department.

Duties include, but not limited to, assisting with criminal investigations by presenting evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, preparing property and evidence duties, recording and issuing evidence in court cases. Preparing and providing detailed police reports. Performing special assignments, serving warrants, and making arrests.

Successful applicants will have:

• Some knowledge of police methods, practices and procedures.
• General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Police Department.
• Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances.
• Ability to develop skill in the use of firearms and the operation of motor vehicle.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a Criminal Justice related field and Virginia Law Enforcement Officer Certification preferred. Bilingual is a preferred skill. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must pass written tests, physical agility assessment, background investigation, physical examination and drug screen.
