Description
This position is responsible for performing advanced technical work for traffic engineering operations, traffic data collection, and traffic analysis.
Employee is responsible for summarizing and analyzing data leading to preliminary findings and recommendations. Incumbent will exercise considerable independent judgment and decision making.
Duties and Responsibilities
The primary functions of this position include: conducting and directing technical work involving traffic data collection and analysis such as, installing traffic counters, conducting roadway condition surveys, reviewing data for accuracy, investigating traffic concerns raised by the public or staff, preparing technical reports, providing leadership and training for junior employees, and scheduling data collection activities.
Will also investigate complaints about traffic safety and traffic flow and develop remedial actions as necessary.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of experience in a related field.
Possession of a valid Florida Class E Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.
Possession of a Level II International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs and Marking certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months is preferred.
Work requires considerable outdoor activity, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, in close proximity to high-volume and high-speed traffic. Must be able to bend, squat, and walk over rough-ground and low barriers as well as sit for up to two hours. Must also be able to carry up to 25 lbs.
Supplemental Information
Must have considerable knowledge of traffic engineering methods and practices, drafting, algebra, geometry, and other related subjects. Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and specialized traffic-engineering computer software programs (including Intersection Magic and Highway Capacity) required for operating traffic data collection equipment, analyzing traffic crashes, and analyzing traffic flow. Must be able to use small hand tools as needed.
Work Hours and Days: Monday - Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with occasional work before and after normal working hours required.
Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
