THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THE POLICE PUBLIC INFORMATION SPECIALIST IS TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY AND MAINTAIN A POSITIVE PUBLIC IMAGE FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • SPOKESPERSON FOR THE JACKSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
  • MAY BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND TO MAJOR INCIDENTS 24/7
  • COMPILE IMPORTANT RESOURCES AND INFORMATION DURING AND AFTER EMERGENCIES FOR THE COMMUNITY.
  • MANAGE AND MONITOR JACKSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT AND PUBLIC INTERACTIONS.
  • COMMUNICATE WITH MEDIA OUTLETS.
  • ORGANIZE COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS TO ENHANCE POLICE/PUBLIC RELATIONS.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EQUIVALENT OF FOUR YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL, PLUS NIGHT, TRADE EXTENSION, OR CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL SPECIALIZED TRAINING, EQUAL TO TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE, PLUS TWO YEARS RELATED EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING. EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS IS PREFERRED.
