The Policy & Advocacy Advisorwill provide high-level strategic leadership in shaping and advancing the organization’s policy and advocacy agenda, with a strong emphasis on communications- and marketing-led advocacy.
Rather than relying solely on traditional lobbying, this role focuses on influencing policy outcomes through compelling narratives, strategic communications, and high-impact partnerships. The Advisor will position the organization as a credible, trusted, and influential voice by translating complex policy issues into clear, persuasive messages and leveraging partnerships and platforms to amplify impact at national, regional, and/or global levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level strategic advice on policy and advocacy priorities aligned with organizational goals and long-term vision.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret policy trends, political dynamics, and advocacy opportunities at national, regional, and global levels.
- Advise leadership on risks, opportunities, and positioning within evolving policy environments.
- Lead the design and execution of advocacy strategies centered on communications, marketing, and narrative influence.
- Translate complex policy positions into clear, compelling, and audience-specific messages.
- Shape the organization’s advocacy narrative to strengthen credibility, visibility, and policy influence.
- Work closely with communications and marketing teams to integrate advocacy objectives into campaigns, branding, media engagement, and public visibility efforts.
- Design and support advocacy campaigns that drive awareness, engagement, and policy impact.
- Oversee the development of high-quality advocacy materials, including policy briefs, talking points, op-eds, thought leadership pieces, and campaign content.
- Build, manage, and strengthen strategic partnerships and coalitions to advance shared policy objectives.
- Represent the organization in high-level policy dialogues, forums, alliances, and advocacy platforms.
- Engage policymakers, donors, private sector actors, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to influence policy outcomes.
- Brief and advise senior leadership ahead of high-level meetings, public engagements, and media interactions.
- Provide internal advisory support and capacity building on advocacy strategy, messaging, and partnership-based influence.
- Monitor, evaluate, and assess the effectiveness of advocacy efforts and contribute to learning and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- 6–10+ yearsof progressive experience in policy, advocacy, strategic communications, public affairs, or related leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience influencing policy through communications-led advocacy, campaigns, and strategic partnerships.
- Proven ability to work with senior leadership and engage high-level external stakeholders.
- Strong expertise in strategic messaging, advocacy campaigns, and narrative development.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
