We are seeking a vigilant and customer-focused pool lifeguard to join our team. The successful candidate will ensure the safety and enjoyment of pool users by monitoring aquatic areas, enforcing pool rules, providing first aid and emergency response when required, and maintaining a clean, welcoming pool environment. This role requires strong observational skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to high standards of health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise swimmers at all times from designated lifeguard stations, maintaining constant visual contact with pool users and promptly identifying potential risks.
  • Enforce pool rules and safety regulations fairly and consistently to prevent accidents and ensure an enjoyable environment for all guests.
  • Perform water rescues and administer emergency first aid, CPR and use of an AED in accordance with training and site procedures.
  • Respond quickly and calmly to incidents, complete incident reports and liaise with management and emergency services when necessary.
  • Conduct regular poolside checks, monitor pool water clarity and report any hazards, maintenance issues or chemical concerns to the technical team.
  • Assist with basic pool maintenance tasks including cleaning pool deck areas, checking safety equipment and ensuring rescue equipment is present and in good condition.
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service to guests, answering queries about pool facilities, sessions and safety guidance.
  • Support swim lesson instructors and accompany public swim sessions as required, maintaining appropriate supervision ratios at all times.
  • Attend and participate in regular training, drills and team briefings to maintain competency and keep up to date with safety protocols.
Person Specification - Skills And Experience
  • Valid ADQCC lifeguard qualification and current first aid/CPR certification required.
  • Previous experience as a lifeguard or in a supervisory role at a pool, leisure centre or similar environment is desirable.
  • Excellent observational skills, able to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to make clear, decisive decisions in emergency situations.
  • Good verbal communication skills in English; able to give clear instructions and interact courteously with guests of all ages.
  • Physically fit and confident swimmer, comfortable performing rescues and assisting in water-based activities.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications And Training
  • Valid emergency first aid at work or equivalent, and current CPR/AED training required.
  • Valid ADQCC required.
  • Water-based rescue and oxygen administration training advantageous.
