We are growing! The Port Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the efficient and timely movement of freight in and out of port terminals and cross-dock facilities. This role includes scheduling and dispatching drivers, routing shipments, inspecting freight for accuracy and condition, and maintaining accurate inventory and shipment records. The Port Dispatcher plays a key role in supporting operational efficiency by ensuring compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Responsibilities
1. Dispatch and schedule drivers to ensure timely pick-up and delivery of containers from port terminals and yard facilities
2. Route all national and international shipments in compliance with company procedures and regulatory guidelines
3. Receive, inspect, and document incoming and outgoing shipments; report discrepancies or damages
4. Maintain accurate shipping and receiving logs, shipment records, and port documentation
5. Coordinate with terminal operators to secure container releases and gate appointments
6. Track and trace containers, resolve issues such as misroutes or delays, and provide status updates
7. Maintain inventory records of goods moving through the cross-dock and warehouse areas
8. Collaborate with warehouse personnel to ensure accurate container/trailer loading and unloading
9. Ensure safe and efficient operations in all dispatch, warehouse, and yard activities
10. Maintain a clean and organized dispatch area, assisting with general logistics tasks as needed
11. Communicate effectively with drivers, internal teams, and customers to resolve scheduling and delivery issues
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Job Requirements/Skills:
1. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and dispatch or TMS software (e.g., TruckMate™)
2. Experience with shipment tracking, scheduling, and inventory systems
3. Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
4. Acute attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in documentation and data entry
5. Professional and clear communication skills via phone, email, and in person
6. Understanding of port and terminal procedures, including container release and gate scheduling
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to resolve logistical challenges
8. Must be dependable, punctual, and capable of managing time effectively
Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
