We are looking for the immediate hiring of an expert and committed Port Engineer at our office in Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone who would be responsible for the efficient planning and running of a large fleet of Tugs, Barges, Crane barges, multicats, cranes, and Auxiliary equipment’s.

In 2007, LSI opened its new premises in Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone with a 13,545 sq. mt yard adjacent to the port Jetty which is reserved for LSI vessels and their associates. LSI currently owns 52 vessels and 8 cranes, as well as managing several vessels for their owners, and employs around 285 full-time staff. Our services include marine chartering, marine transportation, ship management, towages, offshore support, and marine construction projects.

Job Objective:

  • Our goal is to attain the fleet's best technical, commercial, and financial performance, maintaining the vessel at top quality for day-to-day operations/running.
  • The Port Engineer is assigned the vessels and is accountable for best performance within the approved budget and is also required to curtail the retention rate of the crew.

Job Description:

  • Liaise with Master and Chief Engineers for troubleshooting all technical issues related to shipboard machineries and engines.
  • Visit ships for vessel inspections under PMS (Planned Maintenance System) for troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment, machinery, and engines onboard vessels.
  • Evaluating vessel requisition, selecting the most cost-effective vendor, and ensuring supply in a timely manner to the vessel.
  • Follow up on all vessel defects and arrange the repair.
  • Monitor the vessel’s Class status and arrangement of surveys and ensure timely completion to keep the vessel under class at all times and minimize deficiencies from other third Parties.
  • Coordinate with other technical staff, technical/ maintenance team to plan, organize and conduct vessel repairs and ship visits.
  • Coordinate with local suppliers for repairs, services of spare parts, and stores related to M/E & Machinery items.
  • Co-work with technical experts, engineers and vendor technical team to resolve all matters w.r.t. engines/ deck machineries across all fleet vessels.
  • Prepare and submit reports of troubleshooting, defect closure updates, vessel inspections, and overall PMS.
  • Attend vessels during repairs/Dry-docking.
  • Vessel’s Budget preparation and operating the vessel within approved budget. Keep close budgetary control on all vessel’s technical expenditure and finding the most cost-effective solution.
  • Interaction with clients and preparing the vessel as per the client requirement.
  • Prepare and coordinate Maintenance plan for all machineries.
  • Recommend suggestions to seniors to optimize performance of engines/ machineries of vessels.
  • Ensure vessel is meeting various flag, class and port state requirements.
  • Closing of any observations as raised by Class/ Flag/ Port state/ Clients and QHSE department
  • To be involved in problem solving when incidents or breakdowns occur, providing solutions in terms of technical and coordination along with support functions.
  • Evaluate operating conditions of the engine and equipment and decides corrective actions.
  • Authorizes vessel orders for engine stores, spares, lubrications, repairs and class surveys within limits of authority to ensure vessel remains seaworthy.
  • Be available to interview crew, conduct their briefings and ensure Engineers on vessels are suitably qualified and operate in compliance to procedures and planned maintenance activities.
  • Lead the purchase and shore repair team to perform well on your assigned vessels
  • Any other job deemed suitable by Senior Management to prevent vessel downtime.

Desired Profile / Skills / Qualifications:

  • Marine/ Mechanical/Electrical Engineer with minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in the repair and services of machinery
  • 5 Years of sailing experience
  • 5 Years of experience in a Shipyard
  • Full knowledge of all machinery-related operations and maintenance in the engine room of offshore vessels.
  • Prior expertise in solving technical issues across engine manufacturers such as Yanmar, Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit, Scania, Perkins, MAN
  • Open to traveling on board for technical troubleshooting and maintenance as part of the maintenance team.
