Postdoc Position - King Abdullah University of Science and Technology

Postdoc Position in Ocean Modeling and Physical Oceanography

Applications are sought for a 3-year postdoctoral position in ocean modeling and physical oceanography at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) as part of a new joint project between Prof. Ibrahim Hoteit at KAUST, Prof. Triantaphyllos Akylas at MIT, and Dr. Larry Pratt at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). The project aims at advancing our understanding of the physics of two salient small-scale processes, namely hydraulics in the Strait of Bab-al-Mandeb (BAM) and internal waves in the southern Red Sea, and their impacts on the Red Sea general circulation. High-resolution non-hydrostatic configurations of the MITgcm will be implemented on the KAUST supercomputer to this end.

The successful candidate will join an already established multidisciplinary group at KAUST working on modeling, studying and predicting the ocean-atmosphere circulation in the Red Sea region. Extended visits to MIT and WHOI will be scheduled as needed. Qualified applicants should possess a Ph.D. in physical oceanography or any related field. Expertise in ocean modeling is a must. Applicants should be able to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with a minimal amount of supervision.

The initial appointment period is for two years with a competitive salary based on the candidate's qualifications. Benefits include medical and dental insurances, moving expenses to KAUST, free international schools, family annual travel allowance to visit home country and annual paid vacation.
