Power Systems Software Engineer

Grid Elevated, a Utah-based energy technology company, brings together leading researchers, innovators, and energy experts, committed to accelerating the transition to a modern, resilient, and intelligent electric grid. Our products — including IntelliCharge, an AI-powered intelligent EV charging solution, and MIDAAS, a cloud-based platform integrating utility data for advanced analytics and optimization — empower utilities, aggregators, and distributed energy resource (DER) operators to improve grid efficiency, reliability, and advanced technology integration.

We are looking for a Power Systems Software Engineer who is passionate about building the next generation of AI-enabled grid technologies, comfortable operating at the intersection of power engineering and modern software development, and excited to shape products used by utilities and energy innovators across the country.

Key Responsibilities

Power Systems Modeling & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain models for EV charging coordination, DER dispatch, distribution system operation and electricity markets.
  • Develop advanced AI and ML models for parameter forecasting and system operation
  • Build real-time decision engines that interface with field equipment, and customer devices.

Software Engineering

  • Build production-grade modern web applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, with a focus on clean, reusable components and responsive design.
  • Develop scalable microservices and APIs to operationalize power system algorithms in cloud environments.
  • Implement automated pipelines for ingesting, validating, and processing utility datasets (AMI, GIS, SCADA, inverter telemetry, market data).

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Consult with clients to evaluate and understand their current practices
  • Support customer deployments, pilot projects, and utility integrations with technical expertise and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate in a team environment to develop features under a sprint approach and maintain clear and timely communication.
  • Accommodate agile development and meeting biweekly project milestones

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with power system analysis tools and libraries.
  • Strong web-based and cloud-native development and modern DevOps practices.
  • Solid understanding of distribution system operations, DER integration, load flow, and protection basics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EV charging systems, DERMS, ADMS, or distributed optimization platforms.
  • Knowledge of EV, DER and utility data interoperability standards (such as OCPP, IEEE 2030.5, OpenADR).
  • Expertise in AI/ML applications in forecasting, anomaly detection, or grid optimization.
  • Experience building distributed or high-performance computing solutions for large-scale simulations.
  • Prior work with market participation models, demand response programs, or grid flexibility services.
