A leading energy company is seeking a high-caliber Power BI Lead to spearhead enterprise data visualization strategy and own end-to-end analytics delivery within the Azure ecosystem. This is not a data engineering role — the ideal candidate lives at the intersection of data architecture and executive storytelling, translating complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that drive business decisions at the highest levels. Day-to-day, you will serve as the sole onshore technical authority, setting Power BI governance standards, managing workload distribution, and providing technical direction to an offshore analytics team. You will interface directly with business stakeholders to translate their requirements into compelling data narratives while maintaining deep hands-on involvement in report and model development. For a self-driven BI professional who wants high visibility, architectural ownership, and real influence on how a large organization consumes its data, this role is a standout opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead enterprise Power BI development across the full reporting stack — from Azure Data Lake and transformation layers through to performant Tabular models and published dashboards.
Set and enforce Power BI governance standards, best practices, and workload distribution across onshore and offshore team members.
Serve as the primary escalation point and technical lead for a distributed analytics team, providing hands-on guidance and architectural direction.
Partner directly with business stakeholders and executive leadership to gather requirements, translate data into narratives, and ensure insights drive measurable decisions.
Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks across the entire reporting stack, from data model optimization to visual rendering.
Stay current with the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem and guide the organization's evolution from standalone Power BI toward an integrated Fabric environment.
Requirements:
Expert-level Power BI development experience, including advanced DAX, data modeling, and report architecture — candidates should be deeply hands-on, not just supervisory.
Full-stack data mindset with demonstrated experience working across Azure Data Lake, transformation layers, and Tabular/semantic models in an Azure-native environment.
Proven ability to serve as a sole onshore technical lead, coordinating deliverables and providing direction to offshore or distributed teams.
Strong business communication skills with a track record of translating complex data requirements into executive-ready dashboards and data stories.
Experience troubleshooting performance issues at every layer of the BI stack, including query optimization, model compression, and report rendering.
Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or a demonstrated understanding of how the Power BI product is evolving within the broader Fabric platform.
Role Details:
Employment Type: Contract to Hire
Location: Houston, Texas 77002
Schedule: Full-time
If you are a Power BI expert who thrives at the visualization layer, owns your craft end-to-end, and is ready to step into a high-impact leadership role within a data-driven organization, we encourage you to apply.
