Position Overview:
The Pre-Op LPN (Health History Nurse) at OrthoArkansas plays a critical role in preparing patients for surgery by conducting thorough pre-operative health screenings over the phone. This is a non-bedside, in-office position focused entirely on phone-based patient coordination. The LPN gathers and verifies health information, documents surgical readiness in the EHR, and educates patients on what to expect before and after their procedure. The nurse serves as a key liaison between patients and the surgical team, ensuring safety, preparedness, and peace of mind.
Key Responsibilities:

Medical Record Management:
-
Accurately complete and maintain patient medical records in accordance with center policies.

Enter detailed health history and assessment data into the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.

Health Screenings and Coordination:
-
Conduct scheduled pre-op phone calls to complete health histories and surgical clearances.

Coordinate with patients, family members, and care teams to ensure readiness for surgery.

Flag and escalate abnormal medical findings to the appropriate physician.

Patient Education and Support:

Provide clear, compassionate education over the phone regarding pre- and post-op expectations.

Ensure patients understand medication instructions, fasting guidelines, and other surgical prep details.

Follow-Up and Chart Audits:

Make post-op follow-up phone calls to check recovery progress and answer patient concerns.

Perform chart audits as time permits to ensure documentation completeness and compliance.

Team Collaboration:

Partner with the surgery scheduling and clinical teams to support accurate coordination.

Complete other related duties as assigned to support smooth surgical workflows.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
-
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
-
Active LPN license in the state of Arkansas.

12 to 18 months of related experience or a combination of education and experience.

Certificates & Licenses:
-
Required: LPN license in Arkansas.

Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong verbal communication skills for clear and compassionate patient education.

Excellent documentation, organization, and follow-through.

Comfortable working independently in an administrative, phone-based clinical support role.

Proficient in data entry, typing, and basic EHR use.
Software Skills:

Basic: Alphanumeric data entry, word processing/typing.
