The RN PACU/Pre-op admission plans and delivers safe, comprehensive, and compassionate nursing care for the ambulatory surgery patient immediately prior to and following surgery and/or anesthesia. He/she is also responsible for the thorough preparation of the patient/family for discharge to the home environment.
Essential Functions
Supervise LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary personnel working in the area
Maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, and all other department personnel
Initiate physical and psychological patient assessment and initiate pre-operative patient care plan
Accomplish complete patient assessment and evaluation of each patient prior to surgery or treatment
Administer therapeutic independent nursing care
Coordinate the activities in the operating room to ensure safe quality patient care
Direct and control equipment and supplies
Plan and prepare for the post-operative care of the outpatient
Perform the duties of the circulating or scrub nurse
Implement care of the patient/family in PACU
Utilize interpersonal skills in an effective manner
Complete records and reports
Appraise and assist in revising nursing service surgical procedures and standards; assist in research projects
Demonstrate dependability and accountability
Participate in staff development and educational programs
Maintain professional growth
Requirements:Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Active Florida RN License or Multistate License
Current BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certifications
Two years of nursing experience with minimum of one year experience in hospital ICU, PACU, or outpatient recovery room
Ability to exercise independent judgment based upon professional training and the established policies and procedures of the Center
Ability to withstand long and strenuous periods of work which include extensive walking, standing, and varied body motions
Physical work not to exceed fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Working Conditions
Potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood and bodily fluids, and hazardous materials. Therefore, must follow strict guidelines to guard against diseases and other dangers, such as accidental needle sticks and exposure to radiation or to chemicals used in creating a sterile environment.
