Who We Are
Seattle Engraving Center is an American surface engineering and design studio serving collectors and industry partners worldwide. We transform firearms through engraving, precious metal finishing, gemstone setting, and presentation into collector-grade works executed entirely in our Tampa Heritage Studio.
Position Summary
The Precision Surface Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the visual and material integrity of SEC’s legacy-grade components. This role combines expert cleaning, detailed inspection, and informed judgment to ensure each part meets the studio’s aesthetic and technical standards before advancing to final finishing.
Working with ultrasonic, steam, and solvent-based systems, this position serves as a critical quality checkpoint within the production process. The ideal candidate brings a discerning eye, steady hands, and a commitment to preserving the standards that define Seattle Engraving Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed cleaning and preparation of metal components using ultrasonic, steam, and approved solvent-based systems.
- Inspect incoming and in-process parts for surface defects, residue, plating irregularities, and dimensional or cosmetic inconsistencies.
- Evaluate each component against SEC’s visual and technical standards, exercising sound judgment to approve, rework, or escalate as needed.
- Prepare surfaces for subsequent finishing operations by ensuring parts are free of contamination and presentation-ready.
- Handle plated, engraved, and polished components with care to preserve surface integrity throughout inspection and cleaning.
- Maintain accurate tracking of work in progress and ensure components are routed to the appropriate next stage of production.
- Liaise with Production and Quality Assurance to identify issues and coordinate corrective action before components advance.
- Support final pre-shipment inspections to confirm products meet SEC’s aesthetic, functional, and presentation standards.
- Maintain ultrasonic equipment, steam cleaners, and workstations to ensure reliable performance and a clean, organized environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring defects, workflow inefficiencies, and opportunities to strengthen quality control.
Qualifications & Standards
- 3–5+ years of experience in quality inspection, precision cleaning, surface preparation, or final finishing within firearms, aerospace, medical devices, jewelry, or other high-tolerance manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to identify subtle cosmetic and material defects, including scratches, plating irregularities, contamination, and finish inconsistencies.
- Hands-on experience with ultrasonic cleaning systems, steam equipment, and approved solvent-based cleaning methods.
- Strong understanding of how polished, plated, engraved, and coated surfaces must be handled to preserve visual integrity.
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions regarding part acceptance, rework, or escalation based on defined standards.
- Effective communication skills and the confidence to work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Shipping to resolve issues.
- Proven reliability, steady work habits, and a commitment to maintaining consistent quality under time-sensitive conditions.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to perform the role on-site in Tampa, Florida.
