We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to join our surgical services team as a PRN position. This role is essential in providing high‑quality, patient‑centered care during the critical post‑anesthesia recovery period. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, rapid assessment skills, and a commitment to patient safety, comfort, and smooth transitions of care.
Perform immediate post‑anesthesia assessments, including airway patency, respiratory status, hemodynamics, pain level, and level of consciousness.
Monitor patients recovering from general anesthesia, regional blocks, and conscious sedation, intervening promptly for any changes in condition.
Manage airway support devices, oxygen therapy, and emergency interventions as needed.
Administer medications for pain, nausea, blood pressure management, and sedation reversal per provider orders.
Ensure safe emergence from anesthesia, maintaining continuous vigilance for complications such as respiratory depression, hypotension, arrhythmias, or delayed awakening.
Provide warm, reassuring, and attentive care to patients experiencing disorientation, anxiety, or discomfort during recovery.
Prepare patients for discharge or transfer by ensuring stability, meeting recovery milestones, and completing required documentation.
Participate in pre/post-op phone calls and escalate concerns appropriately
Communicate patient conditions to surgeons, anesthesia providers, management, and staff
Carry out physician orders promptly and accurately
Provide thorough hand‑offs to receiving units or caregivers.
Educate patients and families, assessing readiness and understanding
Serve as a mentor and role model to nursing and ancillary staff
Participate in staff orientation and ongoing education initiatives
Stay current on federal/state laws, accreditation standards, and professional regulations
Submit required reports in a timely manner
Recommend and help implement policies, procedures, and best practices
Adhere to all confidentiality, infection control, OSHA, and safety standards
Support AIASC’s regulatory certifications and accreditation efforts
Respond to emails and communications efficiently
Perform additional duties as assigned, including PolicyStat education and Safety Officer responsibilities
Current RN license in the state of Florida
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred and must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Minimum 2 years of perioperative or surgical nursing experience preferred
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to adapt to changing departmental needs and flex work hours as required
