Prepress Coordinator/Composition

Information about the Company: Cenveo is a leading North American manufacturer of envelopes with over 100 years of experience and approximately 30 billion envelopes manufactured annually. We are hiring immediately for our Composition Department on 1st, for its manufacturing facility in Cleveland, OH.

Composition Pay/Schedule:

  • Pay Range - $21.47-$23.62
  • 1st shift - 7:15 a.m.
  • - 3:30 p.m./ability to work overtime as needed
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri/Sat required during busy season/based on needs

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience. The ability to perform in a high-volume work environment with speed and accuracy.

Job Summary

The Prepress Coordinator works as a liaison between the Prepress Electronic Art and Process Color Departments and Press to ensure that the customer expectation in regards to art quality is met. They do this by working side by side on special projects that are out of the realm of normal workflow. They balance the graphic art requirements needed for the project with the abilities of our press equipment to make the decision on how to complete the job. The Prepress Coordinator will also process art files for customer orders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Process customer artwork in order to effectively print to the customer specifications.
  • Works directly with Press Management and Press Operator to ensure that the art concept works with our equipment
  • Works directly with Press Management and Press Operator to determine best approach for succeeding on press
  • Works directly with Press Management and Press Operator correcting color, checking densities
  • Working directly with Press Management, Plates Team, and Press Operator resolving plate issues
  • Determine how best to represent an artwork concept visually
  • Works directly with Sales Rep, Account Managers and Client to develop an artistic approach and style, presenting revisions as they happen for approval
  • Determine which photographs, art, or other design elements to use
  • Review and approve designs, artwork, and graphics developed by other staff members
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

  • Regular standing, walking, carrying, climbing, and reaching; frequent bending and stooping.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push up to 100 lbs., and pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Exposure to high‑output machinery, equipment, and materials such as inks, solvents, and adhesives (SDS available).
  • Work may occur in hot or cold conditions.
  • Compliance with all safety protocols, including required PPE such as hearing protection and safety shoes.

Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent. University degree or specialized classes beyond high school preferred. Successful progressive department experience can serve as a preferred replacement of advanced education.
  • Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes. Typically possesses 5+ years of relevant work experience in a Prepress printing environment.
  • Must be able to listen to and speak with employees, management, sales reps, account managers and clients, to ensure that they understand the clients' desires for end result of label product. This includes working closely with Press Teams to ensure concept is executed to client's expectations.
  • Must be able to come up with innovative ideas to make customers' art work with our line of printing
  • - whether it is digital or flexographic and rework artwork to be in line with our capabilities without losing integrity.
  • Balancing competing priorities and multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines is critical.
  • This position requires proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat. Experience with Esko is also preferred. Must be proficient with EA/CMYK systems and processes or relevant experience with high volume technical artwork processing.
  • Requires ongoing coordination, communication and/or team problem solving between departments or functional areas for work production or service quality.
