Position Title: Teacher Assistant
Reports To: Lead Teacher & Center Director Employment Type: Full Time, On Site Location: Annapolis, Maryland
Position Summary
The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for children ages 6 weeks to 5½ years. This role assists with daily routines, classroom activities, supervision, and maintaining compliance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care regulations. The Teacher Assistant contributes to a positive, collaborative, and child‑centered culture at Little Ones Child Care Center.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support & Instruction
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Support children’s learning through play, exploration, and guided instruction.
- Help prepare materials, set up learning centers, and maintain an organized classroom environment.
- Engage with children in a warm, responsive, and encouraging manner.
- Assist with diapering, toileting, handwashing, and other personal care routines following COMAR 13A.16 guidelines.
Child Supervision & Safety
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Support ratio compliance and classroom coverage as needed.
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Ensure the classroom is consistently clean, safe, and visually organized.
- Report any concerns regarding child behavior, safety, or incidents to the Lead Teacher or Director immediately.
Family Communication & Support
- Greet families warmly and professionally during drop‑off and pick‑up.
- Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining positive, respectful relationships with families.
- Share observations with the Lead Teacher to support accurate communication and documentation.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other staff to maintain a positive, supportive work environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Follow center policies, procedures, and expectations consistently.
- Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
Compliance & Documentation
- Assist with attendance, daily reports, and classroom documentation as directed.
- Maintain compliance with MSDE/OCC regulations and center policies.
- Complete required trainings: CPR/First Aid, Basic Health & Safety, and other MSDE‑required coursework.
Qualifications (per MSDE/OCC requirements)
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CPR/First Aid and Basic Health & Safety training (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass background check and medical clearance.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and actively participate in classroom activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with young children in a licensed child care setting.
- Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
