Preschool Lead Teacher / Provider

We are seeking a Preschool Lead Teacher / Provider to be the Classroom Lead and Magic Creator who will hold the license for our Home-Based Toddler classroom.

16 children Classroom. 3-4 teachers are scheduled per day dependent on time of day and child ages.

Title: Preschool Lead Teacher / Provider

Location: NE Portland

Schedule: Full-Time 32-40 hours/week. Monday-Friday

Pay: $27.00+ dependent on early childhood education level, training and experience

Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery is a Certified home based Waldorf inspired program that runs year-round. We are Earth-oriented and focus on a rhythm based on Nature. Activities and practices that remind us of our ancient roots and communal ways are highlighted by a mixed-age, warm environment, lots of outside time, opportunities for creative expression and celebration of our individuality and collective existence.

The Ideal candidate will-

• Have extensive, proven experience being the container holder and Lead for a classroom, incorporating magic through out the day by pulling primarily from Waldorf Philosophy
• Have a thorough understanding of child development
• Be able to work with other lead and co-teachers with grace and cooperation
• Have an ability/interest to connect with children "heart to heart" in a loving way
• Be able to lift 10-35lbs (children and classroom materials) in routine intervals throughout the day and regularly go up and down one set of stairs between indoor and outdoor space
• Be punctual and dependable
• Be understanding of the energetic quality by which a Waldorf inspired program for the young child is conducted
• Be patient and appreciate/use humor in difficult situations
• Be a good communicator with children and adults
• Have a good sense of one's own body awareness (The non-verbal communication the very young child receives from its caregivers is so important. Our "lessons" to them begin with how we present and carry ourselves in the classroom.)
• Have an interest and appreciation for being part of a mindful school community.

• Lead teacher

• Point of contact with parents in person, at drop off and via email
• Transition facilitator + decision maker
• Weekly mini morning staff meeting facilitator
• Tracking mood & energy level of the children, classroom and teachers
• Tracking very closely the wellbeing, needs, interests and activities of the children
• After hours monthly meeting lead and participant
• Observing children + teachers for opportunities for development, engagement and turning that into a plan of action
• Keeper of ritual + ceremony
• Record keeping
• Policy enforcer
• Point of contact for other teachers
• Email Communication
• Collaborator and bridge between classroom and Program Director & Owner
• Supervise and engage with children mindfully throughout the day and keep them safe and feeling secure
• Assist children with bathroom use and diaper changes
• Supervise meals and playtime inside and outside. We are outside a lot.

Qualifications:

Education -
A Bachelors Degree is preferred but not required

Experience With Children -
-Must have at least one year of verifiable experience (1500 accumulative hours) caring for children ranging in age from infancy to 5yrs in a mixed age childcare/preschool setting. These hours can be accumulative over the course of several years. Providing extra curricular activities does not count towards the 1500 hour hours. This a a non-negotiable as it is a requirement to hold the license for the classroom.

-Must have experience and/or general understanding of and personal interest in Waldorf philosophy and its related domestic arts (No need to be a purist to any degree, as we are not bound to any one philosophy ourselves)
-Must have at least 2 years experience, of any kind, working with more than 4 children at one time.

Certifications -
-Requirement: Active Status in Central Background Registry.

-Food handler's card, Infant toddler First Aid + CPR, Intro to Health and Safety, Safe sleep and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse within 30 days of employment.
