JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, provide developmentally appropriate care and supervision to children enrolled at North Queen Anne Childcare (NQACC); work with a teaching team to implement age-appropriate curriculum for children; establish and maintain supportive relationships with children, parents, and teachers; and perform related work as required.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements social-emotional learning and practice activities and universal and individualized social-emotional support practices
  • Understands that the main priority is the health and safety of each child
  • Provides continuous supervision of the children and maintains ratio in accordance with licensing requirements
  • Follows all applicable licensing requirements and company policies
  • Adheres to NQACC’s Behavior Management policy when interacting with children
  • Ensures that the classrooms are kept clean, orderly, and safe
  • Engages in parent communication
  • Maintains accurate attendance and enrollment records
  • Monitors children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to their supervisor
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Participates in ECE research projects by collaborating with research teams and consultancies to facilitate data collection, pilot and provide feedback on new screening and assessment tools, and implement research-based practices in the classroom
  • In collaboration with families and administrators, develops individualized care plans for children, such as behavior support plans and allergy care plans
  • Modifies classroom environment, routines, and activities to meet individual children’s needs
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of students using an in-house tool based on the WA Early Learning and Development Guidelines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field with ECE-aligned coursework
  • At least two years of experience working with children in a group care or classroom setting
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (completed within the past two years)
  • Current Washington State Food Handler’s Permit (completed within the past two years)
  • Completed allergy response training, such as Red Cross Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector certificationTraining in early childhood-specific verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Bloodborne Pathogens training completed within the past year
  • Demonstrated ability to individualize classroom practices and environments to support the complex medical and/or behavioral needs of children
  • Experience participating in Early Achievers or another state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) program
  • Bilingual in English and another language, preferably Spanish or Mandarin

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Washington State Initial Certificate in Early Childhood Education, or equivalent education completed or in progress; or a Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a group care or early learning setting
  • Completion of the 30-hour Child Care Basics training
  • Commitment to completing a minimum of 10 hours of STARS training annually (or equivalent continuing education hours if located outside Washington State)
  • Experience using a childcare-specific digital platform or application for family communication and activity tracking
  • Proficiency in administering and scoring developmental screening tools, such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ)
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing positive behavior support strategies

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to undergo a background check and obtain all training and certifications required to meet Washington State requirements for early childhood care providers
  • Ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aids may be used if necessary)
  • Ability to see and read newsprint (corrective lenses may be used if necessary)
  • Ability to lift and carry children or other objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without support devices to complete key duties and responsibilities and assist the classroom in emergencies, including evacuation of the building via stairs or windows.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
