Mousam River STEM Academy’s Little Einsteins Preschool is seeking a dedicated Preschool Teacher to join our team. This full-time, salaried position serves children ages 3–5 in a hands-on, STEM-focused early learning environment designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

This is a 12-month position that includes academic year instruction as well as scheduled vacation and summer programming.

Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

About Little Einsteins Preschool

Little Einsteins Preschool provides a nurturing and engaging classroom experience where young learners explore through meaningful, hands-on activities. Our small class size (maximum of 8 students) allows teachers to build strong relationships and provide individualized attention.

Located on a 9-acre campus in Alfred, Maine, our school offers beautiful outdoor spaces alongside newly renovated preschool classrooms.

Position Overview

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for independently leading a classroom of up to 8 students. This role requires a self-motivated educator who is confident managing daily routines, planning instruction, and maintaining a safe and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development & Instruction

  • Design and implement a creative, STEM-focused curriculum
  • Plan and prepare age-appropriate, hands-on activities
  • Support emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

Classroom Management

  • Establish clear daily routines and transitions
  • Maintain an organized and welcoming classroom
  • Promote positive behavior and independence

Safety & Supervision

  • Provide attentive supervision at all times
  • Ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities
  • Maintain compliance with Maine DHHS childcare licensing standards
  • Keep accurate attendance and required documentation

Family Communication

  • Maintain professional communication with families
  • Share updates regarding student development and classroom activities

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a related field, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) with a minimum of 5 years of classroom experience considered
  • Candidates without a degree must have at least 10 years of relevant early childhood experience

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years working with children (preschool experience preferred)
  • Strong interest or background in STEM education is valued

Skills

  • Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practice
  • Ability to plan and implement engaging instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Clear and professional communication
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative

Certifications

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Maine criminal background check (required)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, move, and sit on the floor for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to supervise and actively engage children outdoors in all seasons
