Primary Purpose
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as a part of a teaching team. Each teacher functions as a team member and leader or co-leader. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum and, with active participation of other members of the teaching team, works with parents and assesses the needs of individual children. Our teaching team works to ensure Wesley provides trusted, nurturing, secure and developmentally appropriate preschool education, serving the unique needs of families within the Glenview community. The Preschool Teacher reports to the Preschool Program Director.
Major Responsibilities
· Develop and provide an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children
· Plan and implement experiences that:
o Promote language and literacy development
o Promote acquisition of number concepts
o Provide a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities
o Provide a balance between quiet and active learning activities
o Develop social skills and positive self-esteem
· Implement creative ideas/material into playground and gym curriculum
· Implement creative ideas/materials into dramatic play areas
· Pay conscientious attention to Wesley safety standards and policies
· Establish routines with smooth transition periods
· Be flexible and adjust to changing situations
· Maintain high standards of professional ethics with regard to children, parents, and staff
· Encourage children to be independent
· Be skillful in time management
· Communicate with children at their development level
· Maintain and implement written plans on a weekly basis that incorporate unique and enriching activities
· Assess children's needs on an ongoing basis
· Maintain a neat and organized environment
· Delegate responsibility when necessary
· Meet DCFS and NAEYC requirements with regard to teacher requirements and regarding in-service hours, record keeping and maintaining supplies.
· Promote communication with parents through newsletters, encourage parent involvement, and attend family night functions
· Embody and promote the positive, professional image of Wesley Child Care Center
· Participate in fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within a team
Skills/Knowledge Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development required
· A minimum of 3 year’s experience preschool teaching or supervisory experience
· Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
· Excellent Communication (written, verbal, interpersonal)
· Excellent classroom management skills
· Commitment to high quality early childhood education
· Must complete background check requirements, including those mandated by DCFS
Physical Requirements:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift, carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 30lbs); to travel around the facility and verbally communicate to exchange information.
Normal Work Hours and Conditions:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, including some weekday evenings related to meetings or events.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $50,000-$58,000 per year. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with exceptional qualifications and experience.

Wesley Child Care Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides year-round Preschool Programming (ages 2-5), on-site Before/After School Programs at the Glenview District 34 schools and school-age summer camp.
