GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Prescription Services Coordinator’s primary roles will be to ensure timely processing of prescription refills in accordance with MSHC policy and protocol. Processes Prior Authorizations required by insurance companies. Must have the ability to multitask, work independently and accurately. Teamwork and excellent customer service skills are essential to this position.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Clinical Services Director
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to established MSHC policies and procedures.
- Keeps current with and adheres to state and federal Pharmacy regulations.
- Collaborates with and assists pharmacies in verification of written prescriptions.
- Collaborates with and assists Clinicians in filling medication refill requests.
- Medication prescriptions processed in accordance with MSHC medication protocol.
- Documents according to established protocol in the patience record (Electronic Health Record).
- Process and/or re-direct prescription refill requests received through various media including phone, email, fax, eMDs
- Accurate and timely documentation of appropriate information in the patient record.
- Adheres to and enforces controlled substance medication prescription protocol vis-à-vis Patient Narcotic Contract.
- Reconciles medications received from specialist consultations, Hospice, etc. and updates MSHC Electronic Medical Record.
- Enters medication list received through new-patient records into Electronic Health Record.
- Demonstrates Mid-State Health Center’s values of teamwork, respect, and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors. Actively and appropriately participate in problem solving identification and resolution.
- Performs other duties including Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as requested or assigned.
- Does quarterly medication sample audits and files these with Risk Management.

Handles all mail, opening and forwarding to appropriate person.
EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent required. Prefer at least two years of college.
EXPERIENCE: Previous medical office experience preferred.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with concise and appropriate documentation.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments in timely manner.

- Strong phone and computer skills. Ability maintains strict confidentiality and reports any illegal or unethical act involving another employee or anyone acting on behalf of the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. It requires eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. It also requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Duties may require travel to the Bristol office. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
