The Pretrial Officer is responsible for supervising defendants released pending trial and ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions. The officer conducts interviews, gathers background information, assesses risk, prepares reports for the court, monitors defendants in the community, and provides referrals to support services. In addition, duties will include providing court testimony, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, and preparation of written/oral reports. The position requires balancing public safety with the rights of defendants while maintaining professional, ethical, and impartial conduct. Must have ability to work with people of various backgrounds. Must possess knowledge of Virginia Criminal Justice System, oral and written communication skills, public relations skills, and computer skills. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
