Please note that the provider will need to address daily workload and on call coverage during weekdays and weekends.

Once the provider is up to speed, they can expect to be on-call 3-4 days per month.

Job description:

We are seeking experienced Primary Care Physicians to provide high-quality medical care within correctional facilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a structured healthcare environment, ensuring patient well-being while following state and institutional standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive primary care services to patients in accordance with institutional policies and medical standards
  • Conduct physical exams, diagnose, and manage treatment plans
  • Provide emergency, specialty, and OB/GYN care as applicable to the assignment
  • Collaborate with facility leadership, nurses, and other healthcare providers
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records and ensure documentation of all treatment authorizations
  • Adhere to infection control practices, patient safety protocols, and state regulations
  • Participate in clinical reviews, mortality/adverse outcome assessments, and quality improvement activities
  • Prescribe medications within the facility’s approved formulary (with prior authorization for exceptions)

Qualifications:

  • Current California medical license (M.D. or D.O.) – required
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty
  • Current ACLS and DEA certification
  • At least 12 months of recent experience (within the last 3 years) providing direct patient care in a public or private healthcare setting
  • Specialty assignments (Emergency, Surgery, OB/GYN): Minimum 2 years of recent experience in that field
  • Female facility assignments: At least 1 year of OB/GYN experience within the last 5 years
  • Strong communication skills – must be fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Experience working in correctional or institutional healthcare is a plus
