Job Description:

Provide comprehensive, patient-centered primary care to patients across the lifespan in a community (rural/semirural) setting. The PCP will diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, lead preventive care and wellness efforts, coordinate referrals to specialists, collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (NPs, PAs, nurses, behavioral health), and support population health initiatives for the Tehachapi community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct outpatient primary care (clinic visits), including prevention, acute care, chronic disease management, and minor procedures as within scope.
  • Perform history & physical exams, create and manage individualized treatment plans, order and interpret labs and imaging, and prescribe medications according to best practice and formulary.
  • Coordinate specialty referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care; work closely with local hospitals and referral centers (Bakersfield region as needed).
  • Participate in quality improvement, chart review, peer review, and case conferences; maintain timely and accurate medical documentation in the clinic EMR.
  • Provide patient education and counseling (vaccination, screening, lifestyle, chronic disease self-management).
  • May provide telemedicine visits, on-call coverage (if required by employer), and occasional travel between Tehachapi and main clinic sites (some local employers schedule split sites/coverage in Bakersfield).

Minimum qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Valid, unrestricted California medical license (or active application with clear timeline to obtain).
  • Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (or equivalent primary care specialty).
  • Active DEA registration (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Primary Care Physician is required.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support); ACLS/PALS or others as required by site.
  • Valid malpractice insurance or eligible for employer coverage.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience practicing in rural or community health settings.
  • Experience supervising mid-level providers (NPs/PAs) and working in team-based care.
  • Comfort with EMR systems, telemedicine platforms, and value-based care metrics.

Job Types: Contract, Full-time

Pay: $145.00 - $153.00 per hour
