Job Purpose
The Principal Geologist, QA/QC is responsible for governing, monitoring, and continuously improving geological and analytical data quality across all BMNM operations. The role acts as the corporate technical authority for QA/QC, ensuring that drilling, sampling, assay, and database workflows meet defined standards and are fit for Mineral Resource evaluation, reconciliation, and reporting.
This position centralizes QA/QC accountability within MRM, strengthening technical assurance, audit readiness, and confidence in resource and production decision-making.
Key Accountabilities
QA/QC Framework & Standards
- Define and maintain BMNM-wide QA/QC standards for drilling, sampling, assay, and data handling.
- Ensure consistent application of QA/QC protocols across all sites and projects.
- Establish acceptance criteria, escalation thresholds, and corrective action processes.
Data Quality Control & Monitoring
- Oversee routine QA/QC monitoring for exploration, grade control, and metallurgical datasets.
- Review laboratory performance using standards, blanks, duplicates, and umpire results.
- Identify data quality issues early and drive corrective actions with site teams.
Audits & Assurance
- Lead internal QA/QC audits of geological databases, sampling workflows, and laboratory performance.
- Support external audits and technical reviews related to Mineral Resource reporting.
- Ensure full traceability and audit readiness of all MRM datasets.
Database Governance
- Work closely with the Database Management team to ensure QA/QC rules are embedded within database systems (e.g. Acquire).
- Define validation rules, automated checks, and data integrity controls.
- Approve datasets for use in Mineral Resource estimation and reconciliation.
Cross-Functional Support
- Provide QA/QC assurance to Resource Evaluation, Mine Geology, Geometallurgy, and Reconciliation teams.
- Support investigation of reconciliation issues linked to sampling or data quality.
- Advise on data risk during studies, updates, and reporting cycles.
Capability Building
- Train geologists, technicians, and database staff in QA/QC best practices.
- Develop clear guidelines, templates, and reporting tools for site-level implementation.
- Build long-term internal capability and reduce reliance on consultant-led audits.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
Postgraduate qualifications in geostatistics, data management, or quality systems are advantageous.
Recognized as (or eligible to be) Competent Person under JORC/CRIRSCO.
Minimum Experience:
10+ years’ experience in geological QA/QC, database management, or Mineral Resource support roles.
Strong experience with laboratory QA/QC systems and audit processes.
Proven involvement in Mineral Resource datasets used for public or corporate reporting.
Experience supporting internal or external technical audits..
