About the Role

A leading organization in the sustainable chemistry space is seeking a Principal Scientist to join its Product & Technology Development team within the Water Solutions business unit. Based in Atlanta, GA, this role offers a unique opportunity to lead the development of innovative water treatment technologies that directly support environmental goals and industry transformation.

This is a hybrid role requiring a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise in water treatment, excellent project management skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert in water treatment technologies and product development.
• Lead complex, cross-functional R&D and product development projects , ensuring alignment with business strategy and customer needs.
• Collaborate with internal teams (Applications, Sales, Manufacturing, IP, Regulatory, etc.) to commercialize innovative solutions.
• Engage with key external stakeholders including strategic customers, research institutes, and universities .
• Design and execute lab-scale and field trials to validate the performance and value of new technologies.
• Develop custom test methods, application screening techniques, and prototype systems as needed.
• Prepare clear, data-driven reports, technical documents, and customer-facing materials.
• Support long-term innovation planning by transitioning early-stage concepts into formal development pipelines.
• Travel up to 20% to support field trials, customer meetings, and collaboration activities.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience

• M.S. in the same fields with 8+ years of relevant industry experience
• Deep understanding of water treatment applications and technologies
• Proven success in taking products from concept through commercialization
• Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional and customer-facing environments
• Experience with lab development, scale-up processes, and field testing
• Proficiency in data analysis, experimental design, and technical documentation
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, innovation-driven setting
